Since 2020, the National Assembly Budget Office (NABO) has published the Tax System of the Republic of Korea annually to promote understanding of the country's tax system and recent tax policy trends in the National Assembly's legislative process. This year's edition provides an overview of general taxation, Korea's tax system and its current status, the taxation frameworks for 14 national and 11 local tax items, and the status and management system for tax expenditures, along with key tax statistics of OECD member countries and Korea.
More specifically, 'Part 1: Understanding Taxation' explores general taxation, including the concept and functions of taxes and the taxation process, with an overview of Korea's tax system and its current status and remedy programs to safeguard taxpayer rights. 'Part 2: National Taxes' and 'Part 3: Local Taxes' outline the history of major tax law amendments, key revisions effective in 2026, and global tax trends to help readers understand taxation frameworks and the major issues related to each tax item. 'Part 4: Tax Expenditures' provides a summary of the status and management system for tax expenditures. The appendix features key tax statistics of OECD member countries and Korea.
