NABO holds Grand Debate on 2019 Economic Issues

 On Friday September 6, the National Assembly Budget Office (Chief, Lee Jong-hoo) held the Grand Debate on 2019 Economic Issues on the theme of “Increasing uncertainty in the external economic environment and Korea's countermeasures- Focusing on US-China trade conflict and Japan's export regulations” at Conference Hall of Member’s Office Building.
The debate began with the opening remarks by Lee Jong-hoo the Chief of the NABO and the congratulatory remarks by Members of the National Assembly Oh Jae-sae and Kim Kyung-hyup. The moderator of the debate was Professor Sung Tae-yoon of Yonsei University and discussions were conducted to analyze the impacts of external economic environments such as US-China trade conflicts and Japan’s export regulations to Korean economy and thereby seek countermeasures.
In the first session, Lee Ji-pyeong, Senior Research Fellow of LG Economic Research Institute delivered a presentation on “Japan’s export regulations and countermeasures” followed by a thorough discussion by Yang Ki-ho, the professor of Sungkonghoe University, Kang Sung-weon, Senior Vice President of Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, and Han Cheol-hee, Director of Northeast Asia Trade Division from Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.
In the second session, a presentation was given by Professor Choi Byeong-il of Ewha Womans University on “US-China trade disputes and Korean Economy” and the discussion went on by debaters Yang Pyeong-seob, Senior Research Fellow of Korea Institute for International Economic Policy, Professor Cheong In-kyo of Inha University, and Shin Dong-jin, Economist of NABO.
This debate served as a meaningful opportunity to improve the understanding of external economic conditions and to seek Korea’s countermeasures through expert discussions on Japan's export regulations and trade conflicts between the United States and China.
